State Life Insurance Company

History

In 1894, eight prominent Indianapolis businessmen borrowed $500, rented a one-room downtown office and founded The State Life Insurance Company. Under the leadership of Andrew M. Sweeney, the first company president and policyholder, State Life was granted a charter Sept. 5 of that year.

100 years later, in 1994, State Life began a strategic alliance with American United Life Insurance Companyý (AUL), creating the first in a series of partnerships that culminated in the formation of OneAmerica Financial Partners, Inc., in 2000. As a result, AUL is financially responsible for State Life products.
